OXFORD - Dale M. Doty, 71, a former local businessman, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Ouchita Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark. He had been in failing health two years and hospitalized this time one week. Born at Independence, he was reared in the Attica area and was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He lived at Oxford for 25 years, moving to Hot Springs in 1971. His marriage was in 1936 at Dayton to Elva Brewer, who survives. They owned and operated Doty Culligan Water Conditioner Service at Oxford for 20 years, retiring in 1965. Mr. Doty was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 14th Air Force with the Flying Tigers in Burma and China. He was a member of National Park Christian Church at Hot Springs, Masonic Lodge 486 at Boswell, Oxford Order of Eastern Star and VFW Post 8596 at Oxford, and he was instrumental in building the present VFW post. Surviving with the widow is a son, Roy Charles Doty of Dallas, Texas; and two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Esther) Fudge of Frankfort and Mrs. Valeria Sites of Lawrence. The body is being returned to Lafayette for service and burial. - jlr
